Money Laundering
What Is Money Laundering?
Money laundering is one of the most serious of all white collar crimes. There are three different degrees of money laundering in Arizona, with First Degree Money Laundering being the most serious.
First degree money laudering is a class 2 felony, punishable up to 12.5 years in prison for a first offense. This occurs when a person knowingly initates, organizes, plans, finances, directs, manages, supervises or being in the business of money laundering.
Second degree money laundering, a class 3 felony, involves an individual acquiring or maintaining an interest in, transactions, transfers, transportation, receipt, or concealment of the existence of racketeering proceeds, or knowing or having reason to know that they are proceeds of that offense. This is punishable with up to 8.75 years in prison on a first offense.
Third degree money laundering is a class 6 felony, punishable up to 2 years in prison on a first offense. This occurs when someone confers anything of value to the money transmitter or an employee of the money transmitter, which is intended to influence or reward that person.
